It is stunning that on the one hand the Senate cobbled up, with great effort, an incredibly bad bill and on the other hand seemed not to know their constitutional bounds! The more this debacle unfolds the more convinced I become that the original concept of states rights and the Senate being appointed by the state legislature was a stroke of genius that was eliminated by a stroke of insanity.

Direct election of Senators would still work imo if their terms were two years instead of six. They're in for way too long and could care less what anybody thinks.

Ya know, 23 'Pubbies voted yes - all the rest were Democrats. IIRC there were 69 "Yeahs" so that means 46 votes were Democrat.

This Immigration Bill is a DEMOCRAT victory, that was achieved with the help of RINOs and appeasers.

Agree completely. Now witness what California is about to do with respect to the electoral college - their votes go to the candidate with the most votes in the election.

All this to enhance their influence, which couldn't be already greater.

They know their constitutional bounds. It makes for a great excuse at election time. "We tried to make illegals pay their back taxes, but the Constitution wouldn't let us." A typical Bill Clinton, "It was a hot potato, there was nothing we could do."
