(AP) CHICAGO A U.S. air marshal removed himself from a Southwest Airlines flight Thursday after dropping a clip of bullets on the floor just before the plane was to leave Midway International Airport, an airline spokeswoman said.
The marshal arrived at Midway on a flight from Philadelphia and he was boarding the Southwest flight bound for Kansas City when the clip fell to the floor, scattering bullets, Southwest spokeswoman Whitney Eichinger told the Chicago Tribune for a story on its Web site.
"Since he was no longer traveling incognito, he decided not to continue on the flight to Kansas City," Eichinger said, adding that no extra screening of passengers was necessary because officials determined the bullets belonged to the air marshal. "He picked the bullets up immediately."
The flight to Kansas City was delayed 45 minutes because of the incident, she said.
The Federal Air Marshal Service declined to confirm the specific circumstances of the mishap. But agency spokesman Dave Adams said an ammunition clip was located and turned over to the Transportation Security Administration.
"How many of you have ever dropped a clip of bullets when you were carrying concealed?"
I wonder if he was carrying the magazines vertically or horizontally?

Also, one might wonder why the Air Marshall wasn't tackled by the other passengers, driven to the floor, and beaten senseless to prevent a possible hijacking. That's what the Air Marshall would have done to any of us under the same circumstances.
Guilty as charged! Last winter a few of us were throwing snowballs on a porch while taking a break from moving furniture when I noticed my spare mag of 380s sitting in the middle of the porch. But, thanks to cognitive dissonance, I don't think anyone else noticed.

Dropped a magazine, no. I'll fess up, tho, to dropping a pistol. Went to dinner with family, and had to visit the men's room. Had my KelTec P32 with belt clip tucked into my waste-band, and forgot it was there till too late. Fortunately, I was the only one there.
Course, I immediately stepped outside and fired a couple rounds into the air to make sure the P32 still worked ok! Not!

According to what I heard and read, the Marshalls had clipped a badge on their shirts and and were shouting that they were U S Air Marshalls.
If a disturbance breaks out on an airliner, and someone jumps up with (a) a gun; (b) a badge; and (c) shouting that they are law enforcement officials; I think I would be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, at least until they did something that convinced me that they were not what they say they are.
I don't mind dying taking out a terrorist (I figure if they take over the airplane you are dead anyway), but I would feel like five kinds of idiot if I got myself killed stopping an air marshall. Especially if that allowed the bad guys to win. Maybe the bad guys will try that, but I think I would wait and see.
Oh yea - forgot about that.
We went to the 9mm a couple years before I retired – the early 80s, so it may well have been Reagan.

Even the HKS speed loaders I use for my Taurus .44 hold the rounds secure.
I’ve never seen a spring loaded speed loader – only the twist release. Are they still made?

A couple times-once due to my own stupidity. Didn't make sure the base plate was properly engaged on re-assembly.
Loaded it with rounds, and base plate promptly popped off. I can see the possibility of it holding until dropped
I always make sure they're properly seated now. My stupidity happened in my workshop, wouldn't want it too happen publicly
I haven't seen them for a while, the ones I have, though never use were made by Safariland. They stopped making them for the same reason I stopped using them, the problem when being dropped. Mine are religated to the bottom of the "Toy Box" somewhere *L*

LOL! Did you like that little Kel-Tech? I had one of those, but finally sold it and bought a little Beretta 32--the Kel Tech had a tendency to jam on me.
