Beginning of the next recession...? High tech usually leads the way... Sun is laying off 5000 (announced yesterday)...

Intel and Sun are 2 tech companies losing market share like crazy. AMD is displacing Intel on desktops and also servers (Opteron). Even Dell is going to start offering AMD Opteron chips in Dell's server options. Dell has long been Intel's bitch and only offered Intel for a long time.

Sun Microsystems has been irrelevant for awhile. It's hardware is too expensive, no one else codes for its SPARC processors anymore -- Microsoft and Linux both own the server market.

Sun will be fine - they will be a smaller company, selling to customers in a space where relability, stability and performance are important. we had a drive go bad on a Sun recently - it had not been rebooted in 6 years. try that with anything else.
