Yeah, well how about Braniff stock? Or Eastern Airlines? Or Enron stock?

I'd suggest you not buy those stocks.

It is so easy for you guys to pick in hindsight stocks that have done well.

It's so easy for you goldbugs to talk about how you all bought it at $270, how come no one ever admits to buying it for $700 in 1980?

If you guys do not like gold as an investment, do not buy it.

I won't.

Can a reasonable discussion be had here anymore?

Apparently not.

I sold my gold in 1981 at a nice profit. But I needed the money for college. Sold some of my stamp collection too.

Yes you are right. No reasonable discussions can be had anymore. At least not with arrogant folks like you who think you know everything, yet have portfolios that are exceeded by second year McDonald's clerks who have just started their 401K's.

You have heard me say again and again that one who started buying in every year beginning at the *worst* possible time (1980s peak) would have earned a respectable 5% annually.

The likely truth is that essentially no one engaged in a single lump sum buy at the peak, like you anti-gold tweakers need to assume.
