Not that the government procedure makes much sense:
Participating employers must check on all new employees within three days of hiring, but cannot check before hiring and cannot check on current employees. Companies must post a notice about the program in a visible location.
Got that? You can make legal status a requirement for employment, but you can't check the potential employee's status until after you've hired them. They need to shoot the bureaucrat that came up with that plan.
Still, it's better than NOT checking! Luckily, you can still FIRE an illegal worker lawfully, and can do so if they don't check out with this system. Frankly, I think this provides a useful deterrent against unlawful candidates even applying for job openings. Signs notifying employees better be in a number of languages, though!
