I was asked specifically about those phrases on at least two of the radio interviews I did last week for my book, and I (being a historian) immediately brought up the hot rhetoric of Franklin Roosevelt or William McKinley. Their style of speech was much different, but the meaning of the words was every bit as clear as "bring it on."

Politically, I think Bush thought he finally had to "admit" to some "mistakes" (and which military campaign in history does NOT have LOTS of mistakes?).

War is chaos and war is unpredictable. The best you can do is drill and arm and be as prepared as possible.

We were. They weren't.

But the leftists started their attacks as soon as the popular anger over 9-11 subsided and predictably, their fellow travellers in the media took up on it.

Bush should STOP worrting about what the Democrats the liberals and the left think and say about him or the war. They never supported him or voted for him and hate his guts. Bush should be more concerned about the majority of Americans who supported him and his policies and are getting really angry about the border and dismayed at comments like these from a man they once so staunchly admired and supported.

WHERE is Bush II of 9-11??
