One of Houston Astros coach Jose Cruz's sons is considered missing after a pickup he had been driving was found on fire near an office building in Katy earlier this month.

Jose Javier Cruz, 34, last talked to family members May 19 at his Houston home in the 10300 block of Huntington Place, said Katy police Capt. Gay Dickerson.

"We are listing him as a missing person in danger because he is not answering his cell phone," Dickerson said Tuesday. ...

We are listing him as a missing person in danger because he is not answering his cell phone,"

If that were the case, most of the people I know, would be 'missing persons".

Did Jose Sr. pull a George Foreman in regard to his sons' names?

950 KPRC is reporting that the missing young man is wanted for something . . . I think I heard he's wanted in Puerto Rico, but someone was in my office so I couldn't listen like I wanted to.

Update: it would seem that he is wanted in Puerto Rico for theft and forgery, and that he's been arrested for robbery, assaulting (his wife), and stealing from his father.

Sounds like a classy guy.

Thanks. I found it earlier, but once again, we were having t'storms on and off, keeping me FRom FReeping FReely.

No, he doesn't sound like such a wonderful guy. The ex-wife was on the 4PM news crying and saying that even though he's in a lot of trouble (none of this trouble had been mentioned in the TV newscasts today or any other time), she still hopes that searchers will come out and help TX EquuSearch look for him. She said his daughter cries at night and asks he where he is.

(I think she said the daughter is 4, but don't quote me on that.)

TX EquuSearch also called off their physical searches today because of the rain, but spent the time mapping leads and making grids for assignments for when it dries out soon.

Couldn't believe the missing man has stolen that same woman's car/truck three times, at least, and she doesn't report it -- and this time, he (or someone) burned it up.

I have no sense of what has happened here, except that he may have "disappeared" himself -- and I wonder if the ex was going to go along with it, for some reason. We may find out about insurance money, maybe enough to take care of the child in the future. *shrugging*

I missed a story in the Chronicle last Thursday night, so here it is. Also, I was wrong about the missing Jose J. Cruz's daughter's age, which is 11.

TX EquuSearch was able to search yesterday and will continue again today. They have covered the area in Katy near where the truck was found and all around Buffalo Bayou in that vicinity.

Please see more info below on how you can help Tim Miller and the TX EquuSearch team ...

Missing man's loved ones wait in hope for his return
Ex-wife says Cruz has left home before but always kept in touch

By ROBERT CROWE

Karla Lynn Cruz said her ex-husband's troubles with the law did not stop him from being a good father and friend whose loved ones cling to the hope that he will return home safely.

Jose Javier Cruz, 34, son of Houston Astros first base coach Jose Cruz, was last seen May 19. A day later, police found his pickup — registered under his ex-wife's name — engulfed in flames in a Katy parking lot.

The younger Cruz has a criminal history, which includes a recent warrant for his arrest in Puerto Rico on theft and forgery charges. Karla Lynn Cruz, 30, worries that details of his past might dissuade volunteers from aiding Texas EquuSearch in its efforts.

"We all don't want people to know the worst of us, but in this case, it's not only a person but a husband, a dad, it's a friend that's missing," she said.

She spent Thursday with friends and family at an EquuSearch command center in west Houston as a handful of volunteers canvassed an area in Katy near the parking lot where the pickup was found.

'Wanted back home'

"This is a person, not a baseball player's son or someone wanted by the Puerto Rican government," said Lisa Coy, Karla Lynn Cruz's best friend. "He's a person ... wanted back home."

Karla Lynn Cruz does not believe her husband was fleeing Puerto Rican authorities. She said they failed to extradite him in April when he was jailed in Harris County on a fugitive warrant.

Though he has left their home on occasion, she said, Cruz would always call to keep in touch.

"He would never have his (cell phone) off. His phone is just going straight to phone mail," she said. "My 11-year-old left numerous messages on his phone saying, 'Daddy, please call me.' "

The couple divorced last year after 11 years of marriage, but they continued raising their daughters together. His ex-wife said she still loves him.

Their relationship was improving as Cruz's roofing business was growing, Karla Lynn Cruz added. Cruz, she said, could always be relied upon to pick the girls up from school and soccer practice. The last time she spoke to him on the morning of May 19 the couple agreed that he would pick up the girls from school. He never showed up.

She contacted EquuSearch on Tuesday. The group was in Seminole, Okla., searching for a missing 9-year-old boy at the time, said search coordinator Jerry Luco. However, by Wednesday, EquuSearch had teams in Katy searching for Cruz. The search continued Thursday until rain forced volunteers indoors.

More volunteers needed

Luco said the group will need more volunteers today to assist as they begin searching George Bush Park.

"That area is huge, so we will need plenty of help," he said. "We've had a lot going against us in this search. First of all, we got off to a late start. The weather is bad ... and it is a four-day workweek."

Cruz's father has not commented on the disappearance. Friends and relatives have said the two are estranged.
....
EquuSearch continues to search for Cruz near Katy.

EquuSearch will need ground searchers, ATV's, and horses.

Their command center is located at the Houston Christian High School located at 2700 W. Sam Houston Pkwy. N, Houston, TX 77043.

Those with horses are asked to go to the George Bush Park located at Westheimer Pkwy. & S. Barker Cypress Rd.

Contact Texas EquuSearch at 281/309-9500 with any tips or leads. You can also obtain a copy of Jose's poster from our website www.TXEQ.org.

I got an incoherent message from soccer24 this morning. I'm guessing he's an insider troll, so BOLO everyone!

Well ... so did I, except I understood mine. He/she seems to be a sibling of either Karla or Jose Javier, because the message said "my niece is 11."

I figured out it was the missing man's daughter, who I had pegged as "maybe 4," agewise, because I couldn't remember what age had been reported and I haven't seen her or her photo in the coverage. I made the correction earlier this morning when I found her age as 11 in another story.

There weren't any posts by that poster name, so I gave him/her the benefit of the doubt and wished him/her luck in the search.
