Wasn't Gore considered somewhat of a conservative, in Democratic circles, when he was a senator?

Yep--he was even Pro-Life!

Perhaps so, but going back to 92 and before, when he was still in the Senate, his American Conservative Union voting record was pretty abyssymal, from our perspective. We're talking not that far from Teddy Kennedy, from a voting record standpoint. You can find many other Dem Senators from that era, with much better voting records.
