2006 Decisive Year for Iraq

BAGHDAD, May 29, 2006 — The ratification of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s cabinet ministers is another sign of progress toward unity, security and prosperity in Iraq. This past week, I met with delegations from two of the 29 nations that comprise Multinational Force-Iraq to discuss future support to Iraq’s democratic government. The El Salvadoran Minister of Defense Gen. Otto Alejandro Romero, accompanied by several Salvadoran Congressmen, reviewed the contributions of their battalion and discussed progress with Iraqi and coalition leaders.

In the same week Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen inspected the Danish contingent and met al-Maliki and senior officials on future support to Iraq. These two delegations received a first hand view of the steady progress throughout Iraq, progress that is a product of diligent effort and commitment that often goes under-reported outside Iraq.

In the near future, the Iraqi prime minister’s government will begin to implement an extensive program of national unity. This program establishes achievable and sustainable objectives to improve security, restore Iraq’s energy and public utility infrastructure, encourage economic growth and foreign investment in private business ventures, enhance general health, education, and welfare programs for all citizens, and strengthen the bonds between national, provincial, and local government agencies.

The Council of Representatives will review candidates to lead the national security ministries, craft legislation to curb

violence, re-integrate authorized militia into government security services, expand judicial resources, and facilitate national dialogue and reconciliation.

Equally important, the council will consider the legislation needed to hold Provincial elections, a key step toward expanding representative government for all Iraqis. Taken together, the prime minister’s program of national unity will buttress the rule of law and establish a firm foundation for unity, security, and prosperity.

In the weeks ahead, leaders from key nations in the region, along with leaders from current and prospective members of the coalition, will engage in productive discussions with the Iraqi government and seek mutually beneficial avenues to help Iraq build a productive and peaceful democratic society.

The vast preponderance of Iraqis welcome this engagement and assistance in building a better future. There can be no doubt among the members of the Multinational Force-Iraq coalition that the signs of progress are undeniable. In partnership with the Iraqi government, we remain committed to making 2006 a decisive year for unity, security, and prosperity for all Iraqis.

WE ARE DOOMED! /sarcasm alert.
This never makes the main stream media because they are so intent on destroying Bush. It is beginning to look like they may become sucessful. In fact, they may become so sucessful that a Democrat will win in 2008 and they have indicated through two of thier chief spokespeople. Algore and Bill Clinton that Global warming is our biggest threat. So while the new President is trying to save the planet some islamo facists will put in motion an attack that will pale 911 by comparison.
If we survive the next ten years it will only be because Americans come back to their senses!

Today I was reading the English version of Der Speigel (linked via NRO's "the Corner") and their interview with Ahmedinajad. Twice they said that Iraq was a defeat for us. They provided no explanation as to why this was so-they just asserted it as a given.

Now, having been to Iraq and seen signs of progress and understanding that our enemies there cannot engage us militarily above platoon level skirmishes I find these assertions spurious at best. So the question becomes "why would Der Speigel-and the western media at large-wish it to be so?" In fact, why do they wish it to be so to such a degree that they continue to pound home the point even in an interview with a man who is clearly not their friend and with whom they have very serious disagreements?

The answer, of course, is that they see the perception of failure in Iraq is an efective bludgeon to use against the President (and so the conservative movement which has shown the lie to their entire worldview) in order to attempt to regain power.

With this in mind they do not care if a violently anti-semitic nutbar like Ahmedinejad is strenghtened to the extent that he is able to attack Israel and kill millions of Jews and Palestinians (or Jordanians or Egyptians or Lebanese) so long as western conservatism loses ground to socialist fantasy.

Treason is far too soft a term for what they do.

IMHO, Der Speigel despite any claims to the contrary, hears the strains of the Horst Wiesel in the background and likes the idea of the Reich returning.

"Dear Spiegel" has always been anti-American. They hate conservatism only because it best exemplies what they hate about the United States. Since Europe is militarily impotent, and they have always resented the American military power which spared them Soviet hegemony (which they really prefered), they do not wish America power to be projected to the Middle East. They loathe the idea of Iraq as an America ally. They regard Iran as a potential ally.
