The 'Rats have smartened up in Alaska. Berkowitz is going to run as Knowles's Lieutenant-Governor, allowing for a coronation. Sadly, Loren Leman has opted not to run against Murkowski. With a split field, Binkley and Palin could hand Murkowski a plurality renomination, so one or the other should drop out and endorse the other. I think we have an even shot at holding the Governorship as long as it isn't Murkowski. To underscore how important it is that we hold the Governorship, I point to Ted Stevens, who is likely to die in office. Handing Knowles a win means he gets to pick a successor (and I wouldn't put it past him to resign and allow Gov. Berkowitz to appoint him). This one's important, folks.
If Murkowski polls as poorly among Republicans as the population as a whole, Murkowski may lose even in a multi-candidate primary.
If I'm not mistaken, Loren Leman hasn't endorsed Murkowski. If AK Republicans all hear that a Murkowski nomination will hand victory to the Democrats, that should help.
