LA PAZ, Bolivia - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez told Bolivian forces to be on guard against conspirators, suggesting again that President Bush is plotting against the country's left-leaning government.
Chavez's comments during his weekly radio and television program Sunday were his latest response to Bush's remarks last week that he was "concerned about the erosion of democracy" in Bolivia and Venezuela.
"When the U.S. president said a few days ago that he was worried because democracy is eroding in Bolivia it's because, you can be sure, he has a plan against Bolivia," Chavez said without elaborating. He urged "his brothers, the Bolivian soldiers," not to be caught off guard.
On Friday, Chavez said Bush has "already given the green light to start conspiring against the democratic government of Bolivia."
Chavez spoke Sunday from the ruins of Tiawanacu, located about 35 miles west of La Paz in Bolivia's highlands. He is in Bolivia to meet with Bolivian President Evo Morales and Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage a trip designed to bolster trade ties among three leftist governments.
Chavez has repeatedly accused the United States of trying to overthrow him to seize his country's vast oil reserves.
The U.S. State Department has said it has no plans to overthrow the Bolivian or Venezuelan governments. But Bush has expressed concern about the growing Venezuelan-Cuban-Bolivian partnership, and has tacitly sided with the governments of Peru and Nicaragua, which have accused Chavez of interfering in their presidential elections.
Undeterred, Chavez on Sunday strongly endorsed Peru's leftist presidential candidate Ollanta Humala and continued his war of words with Peru's president, saying that Alejando Toledo was "subordinate" to U.S. interests.
Chavez also called Peru's leading presidential hopeful, Alan Garcia, a demagogue who "wants to be president so he can continue stealing."
"Hopefully the Peruvian people, who we love, will give a demonstration next Sunday of historical consciousness and allow Ollanta Humala to be Peru's next president," Chavez said.
Garcia leads Humala with just a week left before Peru's June 4 presidential runoff, according to a final poll published Sunday. Toledo is prohibited by law from seeking a consecutive five-year term.
In comments to reporters on Saturday, Toledo said: "He cannot meddle in (our) domestic affairs. You have been notified, Mr. Chavez ... don't mess with my country."

Is Hugo on drugs? He gets more and more paranoid every day.

Is the Pope German?
As long as he's pumping oil, who cares what he has to say?
Geeze I hope he doesn't find out about our plans for an armed invasion of Mars.

Further proof that screwing Cindy Sheehan can make you delusional. |
Chavez has a persecution complex.
He's always saying Bush wants to invade this country or that country - and as far as I have heard - we have no plans what so ever to any such thing.
I dig the Coca leaf necklace though, anybody got any lime?
