"....as a child my grandfather who was a WWII Veteran would bring me to the cemetery on Memorial Day to help place Flags on the Soldiers graves. The article on the Boy scouts reminded me of my Grandfather.

Thank God in an actual BIG ; way that you DID have a Patriotic Grandfather ExDem as you were growing up! : That you had a Great Living Example that you could inter-act with and speak directly with About the REAL History of America while you were growing up! ( instead of the circumstances today...)

Sounds like he himself had good, hard working and HONEST Parents too who recognized that living in a Free Country-and living in FREEDOM is NOT a "RIGHT" but more of a RESPONSIBILITY & that you have OBLIGATIONS that the " INNER-SELF" OF A HONEST, GOOD MAN! FEELS AND RECOGNIZES!!

And if HE Felt & Saw this- in times that were 10x's rougher then we live in today!- and STILL carried on with the trek to cemeteries for such an unselfish act as laying flowers or placing Flags in Honor of Those who had Sacrificed so HE may be alive and Free- Is he still alive ED?? Give him a strong, firm hand shake of Thanks from me!!

If he has passed away: weel..then I am sure that he was a Good Human Being too all around!!and The Good Lord has placed him along His side for his Good Heart & Conscious!

We NEED " Good Men " these days more then ever ExDem.

And I feel that those I meet HERE too are "Good"- in a sense they have that "Inner" quality that recognizes the Truth of situations INSIDE THEIR HEARTS first! BEFORE actual thoughts and explanations hit their brains.

Maybe that is what is called

Righteousness!

..or just knowing in your Heart there are things that HAVE to be DONE--and that YOU feel compelled that it is YOU who have to do it!!

OTHERWISE...you you feel that you may NOT be able to live with yourself!! And THAT FEELING Can NOT be faked!! ( That is why WE can spot LIES IMMEDIATELY and Falsehoods of some as they Try to Pretend to have these altruistic Traits for their own SELFISH Agendas!!-Feeling like "PATRIOTISM" can never be FAKED!

But it sounds from some of your own pasts posts that this Grand Characteristic has been passed on down into you too ExDem! May it long Grow and be passed on to your own children too!

Freedom Isn't Free

I watched the flag pass by one day,

It fluttered in the breeze;

A young Marine saluted it,

And then he stood at ease.

I looked at him in uniform,

So young, so tall, so proud;

With hair cut square and eyes alert,

He'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought. how many men like him

Had fallen through the years?

How many died on foreign soil?

How many mothers' tears?

How many pilots' planes shot down?

How many foxholes were there

That served as soldiers graves?

No . Freedom is not Free.

I heard the sound of Taps one night,

When everything was still;

I listened to the bugler play,

And felt a sudden chill;

I wondered just how many times

That Taps had meant "Amen"

When a flag had draped a coffin

Of a brother or a friend;

I thought of all the children,

Of the mothers and the wives,

Of fathers, sons and husbands.

With interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard

At the bottom of the sea,

Of unmarked graves in Arlington.

No. Freedom is not Free!
