Through his presidency, George W. Bush has worked hard to avoid repeating the mistakes of his father. He has done almost everything differently, yet now finds himself in the same hole despite trumping his dad by winning a second term.
He is roughly at the same place in the polls where the elder Bush was at the low point of his presidency, with only about three of every 10 Americans registering approval. Like his father before him, this president faces a rebellion among conservatives, an uncertain economic outlook and the prospect of Republican losses in November.
The first President Bush liked to quote Yogi Berra, his favorite pop philosopher, and his curious take on a baseball loss: "We made too many wrong mistakes."
What were the biggest mistakes of George W. Bush's presidency? When asked that at an April 2004 news conference, he said he could not think of any. A far more subdued Bush now acknowledges some major ones _ and not the ones his father made.
They include "kind of tough talk, you know, that sent the wrong signal to people," Bush said at a Thursday news conference with British Prime Minister Tony Blair. He said the inhumane treatment of Iraqi prisoners at Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison was one of the darkest marks on his watch.
"Now I think he wishes he had not taken a blanket view that everything his father did was wrong," said Bruce Buchanan, a University of Texas professor who has closely studied the Bush family. "Staying out of Baghdad looks like a brilliant move at this point." During the Persian Gulf War in 1991, the first President Bush did not send U.S. troops into Baghdad to oust President Saddam Hussein after the U.S.-led coalition ousted the Iraqi arm from Kuwait.

President George W. Bush is not the PROBLEM. The House and the Senate are the PROBLEM. One man cannot be a bigger enemy than 535 people in the House and Senate. The 535 are todays numbers though this has been true since George Washington.

The media and Congress have LOWER poll numbers (maybe even COMBINED).
President Bush is actively putting brutal pressure on 535 people in the House and Senate to pass the amnesty bill and has willingly become a large part of the problem..
They've done nothing but hinder and back-bite him and his programs.
And spare me the self serving nonsense "well more people are Democrats now" Political Identification changes slowly. People rarely switch more then one in their lives from Rep to Dem or vice versa. Calling up 500 people asking them "what are you Dem or Rep" just means YOU called more Dems, not that more people ARE Dems. The PROVEN ratio to use is Election results. But if this is done the Junk Media doesn't get these dramatic headlines to hype and exaggerate that it wants so of course they cannot do be HONEST. It's Market Share, NOT Intellectual Honesty that drive these weekly polls.
Simply amazing that the same American people who can be so utterly cynical about Commercial Advertising are so hopelessly gullible when it comes to Ideological Advertising with a phony "News" or "Poll" label slapped on it.

This is a ridiculous article and analogy. George Bush's father never made it into his second term.
A more apt discussion would be how second term presidency's typically produce low poll numbers.
Sorry Joe, but at risk of being flamed by Bush-bots, your wrong. Bush has ZERO ability to communicate a cohesive thought, littleless convincingly defend any ideas he may have. He is loosing the war of his credibility because he doesn't know how to communicate at all. You can see misstep after misstep. The Senate has been screwing him over, thats true, but what has he done to fight for his causes or defend his leadership. Social Security reform? Education Reform? Drilling in ANWAR? Abu Grave? Nothing! He tends to only boldly defend the stupid stuff that pisses his base off the most from Harriet Myers, to Ports Deal to Amenesty for illegals.

DC does NOT work in the way your favorite TV show TELLS you it does. It utterly NONSENSE to claim the President is "Applying Brutal pressure" Hyperbole, exaggeration and feverish emoting DOES not help make the Antis case. It makes their whole side of the issue look juvenile, hysteric and foolish.
The President cannot put "brutal pressure" on anyone in Congress. For crying out LOUD, they almost shut the place down in a "Constitutional Crises" because a PROPER Search Warrant was served on one of the member's office. It is utterly absurd make believe hype and Hollywood level nonsense to claim the President is "applying brutal pressure" to Congress. This sort of hype just make the poser look childish.
Time for the 100%ers to take a deep breat and get a grip on reality again. That statment is utterly absurd.
This President Bush is in a hole because of his determination to go against what American CITIZENS want, in favor of Fox and the Mexicans who have invaded our country. At this rate, Bush will finish much lower than his dad did. His arrogance will overshadow the good things he has done for Americans!
His speech on immigration was his first address to the American public (on a domestic issue) since 9/11.
In nearly five years (since 9/11) he has provided virtually no leadership on border security and immigration reform.
When he finally presents a plan, it's just what Ted Kennedy wants.
Yeah.. if Bush 43 doesn't change his ways he won't get re-elected!
