Ok, we know the House is feeling the heat on this and is doing the right thing.

Question: why are the senators, who collectively make up the same territory as the house members do from any given state individually, LESS sensitive to the constituents? Why does DeWine continue to OPPOSE THE PEOPLE on this? VOINOVICH too? Yet Turner, Hobson, etc. all know where their bread is buttered. You could say, "All senators are not up for re-election," but DeWine is!! I don't get it.

A simple answer, and one which does impart a certain emotional sense of satisfaction, might be "never underestimate the power of stupidity". /grin

A more likely scenario, however, is that DeWine has been promised other incentives in the event he loses his election which are sufficient to justify the risk. It's important to remember that these guys aren't just Senators, they're also entrenched members of a wide-ranging network of power and influence. There are plenty of lucrative and status-filled positions such as corporate boards, ambassadorships, foundation and think-tank fellowships or the catch-all, highly-paid, do-nothing "consultant" jobs which can be dangled as compensation if a "loyal soldier" takes one for the team while "fighting for the cause".
