"Open question to ALL. Is there no Breaking News today? Does all the posted breaking news stories get pushed down to regular news? I've noticed on Sundays that the Sunday Morning Talk Show thread always stays at the top of breaking news. Can anyone explain?"

Since you addressed your post to "all", my best guess is that it is a Holiday weekend, even the Moderators have things to up-date besides breaking news.

As far as "end of thread hash" goes, for the Sunday morning talk show thread, most enjoy that, and your's is the first complaint I have heard.
