[House Republican leaders yesterday refused to yield on immigration, insisting that any bill to emerge from upcoming House-Senate negotiations will contain no provisions for undocumented immigrants to become citizens.]

I think we are witnessing the last stand of conservative republicans. Bravo for the far sighted House republicans who realize than changing the constitution to allow for illegal immigransts to become legal immigrants is a recipe for sovereign disaster in America. The President and the Senate rinos are destroying our country with the help of the atheist and immoral democrats.

This guy uses the term, "path to citizenship" eight different times. Talk about a mantra.

It's mantra all right. It's just a new way of talking about the "new American".

THE "NEW AMERICAN"

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico.

George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.

You can read the speech here.

Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:

In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. [Meanwhile, John McCain will NEVER be President over this and other actions. NEVER.]

If only it is so, it seems liberalism has crept into the rino republican party and anything is possible at this point. Our generation has failed to raise generation x properly and now we will pay the piper it seems.
I can only pray for a new conservative party to arise out of the rinos and stand on the strict interpretaion of America's Constitution.
May the Lord Jesus Christ open up the eyes of the blind leaders to see the destructive path they are putting us on. Even President Bush does not believe in American sovereignty, he said some months ago that their should be no borders between America, Canada, and Mexico.
He has become a fool for the atheist liberals.

Graham has already been judged harshly ... by ME, YESTERDAY, in an EMAIL to my legislator. What arrogance this man has to think that the Republicans will be judged harshly. It is Graham and those who voted for this travesty that WILL BE judged harshly then next time we see their names in a voting booth. This is not "immigration reform" it is "illegal immigration validation."

"The Senate has no clue as to how far out of touch they are with the people of this country. How could they have gotten so far out of the mainstream on immigration?"

This has been the most befuddling question throughout this debate. I tend to agree with Rush's assessment as to why these senators are ignoring us.

This has nothing to do with immigration, it is about power, it's about bigger government. The elitist blueblood Republicans, i.e. moderates and some liberals have been seething since the '94 conservative takeover of the House.

This is conservatives vs. blueblood Rockefeller types. One wants to limit government, the other want to expand government. With more poor people flooding in to our country, the big government leaders see victims in the making for expanding the welfare system.

In short, the moderates/liberals such as McCain, Graham, et. al. are out to destroy the conservative movemment.

" Sometimes a massive loss might be what the doctor ordered to awaken the conservatives."

I feel your pain, and I agree with you on what some power-players in our party are doing right now. I want NO amnesty, and a secure border.

If you had lived under as many dim administrations as I have, you would NEVER think that way. Your mantra was sung on volume 10 during klintoons first election. In 1996, not even a whimper could be heard from that crowd.

Never forget that gore tried to STEAL A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. We as Conservative Republicans have to not only win elections, but keep the enemy from outright stealing them. Dead dims voting, illegals voting, and suing to overturn legitimate elections are a few of satan's tricks. We cannot afford to send "feel good" messages when our Nation may very well falter under the next dim controlled government. I am really scared of a mushroom cloud over an American city. With dims in power, the probability of that happening goes up ten fold. This is one example only.

History is our friend, and we should learn when NOT to repeat it.

Keep telling our pols that, "CONSERVATISM WORKS WHENEVER IT IS TRIED"!

If the House Republicans will only stand strong, we can begin the RINO purge in the fall.

I also am not backing mclame, and my earler post is not about electing him. We can keep that nutcase off of the ballot if we keep our eye on the sparrow.

Got a link to that?

yeah I remember blue ribbon prizes well. I suspect when the term was first used in politics for cover-up commissions it was more common in american life.
