"Whenver I read stories like this I wonder what the attraction to Islam is. It seems to appeal to people who have a need for a strong set of rules about how to live; self-determination and individual initiative are frightening to these people, and they need an outside source of rules for getting through life."

I think you're pretty close in explaining it. It's very austere and it's going to appeal to people who want a strong sense of discipline. I think that partly explains why it's so popular in American prisons. I think part of it's appeal is that it also puts men in a position superior to that of women.

One of Christianity's problems is that much of it has become very feminized. Men are simply not comfortable going to churches with women clergy or in some cases homosexual clergy and a theology that is all too often espousing secular feminism. The results are there for all to see.

Go into a church these days and do a head count. Mostly women and older women at that, and very few children or families. Churches that don't value men and fathers are not going to see them attending.

Very true. There are many churches that practice a dead faith and worship a dead god (little g).

Not true in the Orthodox Christian faith, you'll not find either!
