Daily Bulletin reporter Sara Carter was named the winner of the 2006 Eugene Katz Award for Excellence in Coverage of Immigration the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Immigration Studies.
This award "is intended to promote informed and fair reporting on this most contentious and complicated issue," according to the center.
In announcing the award, the center cited stories, which Carter broke, about U.S. officials alerting the Mexican government to the activities of civilian border patrols and stories about drug cartels placing bounties on Texas law enforcement officers.
"The body of her reporting over the past year is an important example of how the public interest can be served when even a relatively small media outlet devotes appropriate resources to coverage of our nation's immigration crisis," according to a statement from the center.
Past winners of the Katz award include CNN's Lou Dobbs and reporters from The Washington Post, The San Diego Union-Tribune, The Dallas Morning-News and The Washington Times.
She was at the forefront of reporting "activities" along the border and has done a respectable job, imo.

Sara is very funny, too. She and I share a table and a smoke at the Bulletin's outdoor cafe patio every morning. We talk about her safety alot nowadays. What she's into with our "Beyond Borders" series puts her in the crosshairs of many bad guys on both sides of the border.

Would you know if she is married. I have a cousin named the same and my mom wanted to know. Her maiden name would be Santoro from Long Island NY.
