Good, more government solutions to nonproblems. Let's kick in every door in the country and spend billions of dollars looking for this plant. After all, it's not like our country has real problems to address.

I guess the Nanny state has got to keep people from hurting themselves. One may think one is an adult, but one is simply another child of the state.

you know, you can't get high unless you're breathing, therefore, I think air should be outlawed!

Purple Sticky Salvia is an all-natural hallucinogen...

How long before Purple Sticky Salvia is found to:

(a) Have the greatest biomass of any plant on the earth and will solve the planet's energy needs forever;
(b) Rumored to cure all cancers and most debilitating diseases;
(c) Allow patients with terminal "ribbon" diseases to live out their lives in physical comfort and mental ease.

??

He says if people are smoking it and hallucinating, then it needs to be off the market.

Yeah, don't want any unfair competition to the manufacturers of booze and pills.

Here's the transcript from one of our local TV stations
Airdate: April 27th, 2006 (Please forgive the CAPS)

MAGIC MINT. SALLIE D. DIVINER'S SAGE. FRESHMAN SELECTION. PURPLE STICKY. THE HERB SALVIA IS KNOWN BY MANY NAMES.

IT IS ALSO KNOWN AS "THE DRUG THE GOVERNMENT FORGOT TO BAN."

SEVEN-ON-YOUR-SIDE'S JASON PEDERSON TAKES A LOOK.

AN INTERNET CONNECTION AND $65 DOLLARS. THREE DAYS LATER WE HAD AN OUNCE OF SALVIA LEAVES AND TWO GRAM SIZED BAGS OF CONCENTRATED SALVIA EXTRACT.

(Dr. Joseph Banken/U.A.M.S.) "It is the most powerful natural hallucinogen known."

DR. JOSEPH BANKEN IS A CLINICAL PSYCHIATRIST WITH UAMS. BANKEN ALSO RESEARCHES THE EFFECTS OF RECREATIONAL DRUGS, INCLUDING SALVIA.

THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF SPECIES OF SALVIA, MANY USED IN LANDSCAPING AND GARDENING. SALVIA DIVINORUM HAS BEEN USED FOR CENTURIES IN MEXICO DURING RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES. THE MAZATEC INDIANS BELIEVED THE BITTER HERB...FROM THE MINT FAMILY...HELPED THEM COMMUNICATE WITH SPIRITS.

IN LOW CONCENTRATIONS SALIVA CREATES A PLEASANT EUPHORIA OR MILD HALLUCINATIONS. BUT HIGHER DOSES CAN PRODUCE OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCES, A FEELING OF HEIGHTENED AWARENESS, PARANOIA AND DISTURBING OR CONFUSING VISIONS.

(Dr. Banken) "It is very rapid acting and very short in its primary effect."

(William Bryant/Asst. Special Agent in Charge, DEA) "If you smoke it it is supposed to be able to get you high in approximately 15 to 30 seconds and that high will last anywhere from 10 to 15 to 20 minutes."

ALTHOUGH SALVIA IS NOT A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, BRYANT SAYS THE DEA DOES CLASSIFY IT AS A DRUG OF CONCERN.

DELAWARE WILL SOON JOIN MISSOURI AND LOUISIANA AS THE ONLY STATES THAT HAVE OUTLAWED SALVIA. A HANDFUL OF OTHER STATES...NEW YORK, ILLINOIS, ALASKA, TENNESSEE AND NEW JERSEY...ARE CONSIDERING TAKING SUCH ACTION.

CLOSE TO A DOZEN COUNTRIES, INCLUDING DENMARK, SWEDEN, AUSTRALIA, ITALY, BELGIUM, SOUTH KOREA, AND BRAZIL...HAVE MADE SALVIA A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE. IN FACT, SOME COUNTRIES THAT HAVE OUTLAWED SALVIA TAKE A MORE PERMISSIVE STANCE ON DRUGS LIKE MARIJUANA.

(Dr. Banken) "I've not seen that that has helped when drugs have been made illegal in all cases but it should be...it should be more tightly controlled. That people can order it right from the internet and it be delivered to their home is of great concern."

THAT IS HOW 17 YEAR-OLD BRETT CHIDESTER GOT HIS SALVIA...OVER THE INTERNET.

AFTER THE DELAWARE TEEN COMMITTED SUICIDE, HIS PARENTS FOUND A SUICIDE NOTE THAT SUGGESTS THE DRUG INFLUENCED HIS DECISION TO END HIS LIFE.

(Kathleen Chidester/Delaware) "He said he wanted to explore the boundaries that we have...you know once he took that salvia he wanted to explore and go beyond the senses and the boundaries that we have here on earth."

(Dr. Banken) "My concern is if a person is already depressed or anxious it could certainly make those conditions considerably worse."

TEENAGERS HAVE BEEN LINKED TO SALVIA USE IN SEVERAL ARKANSAS CITIES, INCLUDING JONESBORO, FAYETTEVILLE, MALVERN, KIRBY, AND BATESVILLE.

(Bryant) "Just because a substance...if it is not classified or scheduled doesn't mean its healthy for you. The research is still going on what this substance is doing to our kids."

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT SALVIA...AGENT BRYANT SUGGESTS YOU VISIT THE D-E-A'S WEBSITE WHICH IS LINKED THROUGH OURS AT KATV.COM.

BY THE WAY...I VISITED TWO LITTLE ROCK HEAD SHOPS TODAY AND BOTH SELL SALVIA...MARKETED AS INCENSE

Great article in Wall Street Journal today on plants releasing toxins: "Its tissues are 'like toxic waste dumps filled with dangerous chemicals that kill or deter the organisms that eat it.'" They quote from a book, "A Natural History of Ferns."

There are a large number of plants that release chemicals. I like this quote from WSJ in this regard to insects eating one: "One meal and the insect is shedding exoskeleton like an ecdysiast and 'has eaten its last supper.'"

Any idiot who ingests chemicals for psycho-active effect (unless a minor) deserves the body damage they receive. At this point in the War on Drugs, I think we need to allow death by drug suicide. Just arrest them when they commit other crimes -- like stealing to support a drug habit, or driving under the influence. There's no way we can make every plant illegal.

When it comes to children and their drug fad of the decade, the parents should be arrested and fined for child neglect.

It's still legal because it hasn't attracted any large-scale hysterical reaction yet.

Rest assured that it will.
