Lucky for him, "dead bears tell no tales."

I would just sum it up as: Bears are the property of the U.S. Government, and are valued more than human citizens.
BUT..maybe the article is poorly written and there could be evidence found that conflicts with the mans story.

In this part of the world, if you shoot or annoy the wrong critter on the wrong day in the wrong place with the wrong armament, everything you own can be confiscated.
If it's a certain critter ( Mexican Gray Wolf), you can end up in federal prison.

They seized the 10-gauge shotgun he used to shoot the bear, a .22-caliber rifle and .22-caliber ammunition. The search warrant indicates they are seeking evidence that would support a charge of "Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the First Degree" and "Unlawful Hunt Big Game 2nd Degree: Closed Bear Season." So let's see, instead of simply investigating this and coming to a simple determination, they are attempting to contrive things in order to book this guy?

DUDE WE ARE THE NEW NEIGHBORS OF THIS GUY, and his GOOD FRIENDS. True; it was a rather small bear, but at least Aaron took control of the situation - You’d probably be the kind of person who tries to feed the bear (and you’d get MAULED). What possessed him to make “That Call”. MAYBE IT WAS THE F**KING bear staring him in the face?!?
