Federal Housing Agency and Residents File Complaints Saying the Program Is Biased Against Hispanics

Federal housing officials said yesterday that they are investigating whether a two-year-old program to combat crowded housing in Manassas is unfairly targeting Hispanic families in violation of the Fair Housing Act.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development filed a complaint Tuesday alleging a pattern of discrimination. Yesterday, a group of Manassas residents and civil rights advocates filed 11 more complaints, saying that the city has selectively enforced its overcrowding rules and other ordinances against Hispanic residents in what amounts to a systematic campaign of harassment.

Although the article lists the complaint that "they ain't knocking on no white people's doors" I still call BS.

They should use the old estimating rule, "count the bicycles and multiply by three". No racism in that, anybody can own bikes!

The fact remains that illegals come here and rent a "family" dwelling and then they bring dozens more in to share it. It could be mom, dad, kids, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. or it could just be 30 totally unrelated people sleeping 10 to a room. Very quickly the property deteriorates as they all come and go.

We've seen pictures here on FR of crack downs on these places in NJ, I think. It was a shame what they had done to these homes and neighborhoods.

You are right. White people don't live 20 to a house. But I guess if they target excessive occupancy in a home, they must be targeting hispanics and it is a racist enforcement effort. After all, the logic goes, the municipality thinks only hispanics live in large numbers in a home, therefore the government is racist for this implied bias. It doesn't matter than U.S. citizens don't live like this.

I pay Federal taxes so HUD lawyers can sue my city (Manassas).
I pay city taxes so Manassas can defend itself against the Federal suit.
Makes you want to be a lawyer.
An the politicians still don't get it - oh that's right most of them are lawyers!
