If the House passes this bill, it may be time to resign ourselves to a long term Democratic majority in both Houses of Congress, as we basically had from 1930 until 1980. Most of the illegals will go through the process of becoming citizens and will vote Democrat in large majorities. By the early 2010s, Nevada, Arizona, and Colorado will tip to a solid Democratic majority, and perhaps Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida later in the decade. The remaining conservative outposts in California, San Diego and Orange Counties and the Central Valley, will be eliminated. Continued immigration, legal and illegal, will ensure increasing Democratic majorities in both Congress and the state legislatures. Only RINO type Republicans like Arnold Schwarzenegger of Rudolph Giuliani will stand a chance of being elected President.

The economic results will be the elimination of the Bush era tax cuts, higher taxes on the middle and upper classes, implementation of the Kyoto restrictions on energy production and consumption, a return to 1970s inflation, even the 55 m.p.h. national speed limit. In foreign policy, our military power will be curtailed and American economic and strategic interests will be placed essentially into the hands of the United Nations, NATO, and any "son of NAFTA" transnational organization that may arise in the Western Hemisphere. As for social issues, any areas where Congress would be reluctant to offend culturally conservative Hispanics, such as abortion and homosexual marriage, will be addressed by the judicial selections made by a liberal Congress and President.

Unless the House stands firm in this matter and insists on closing the border first, the political alignment in America will shift to the probably permanent disadvantage of conservatism. BTW, the "fairness doctrine" will be revived, and talk radio as we know it will be dead. We will be back to the days of 20-25 years ago when someone like George Will or Robert Novak was the lone conservative who was usually shouted down by the liberals.

I wish I could be more optimistic, but the demographics of amnesty are evident and are clearly favorable to liberalism and the Democrats. This gloomy outcome is, however, good news to Democrats, RINOs, and the pseudo-conservatism defenders of amnesty and open borders on this site.

Long-term DemonRAT majority? I dare say permanent, at least until American soverignty is suborned by the UN once and for all.

And that's even if conservatives don't tell the RepubicRATs to go <expletive deleted> themselves.

What a fool I have been. Urging support for the "R"s because they werent dems. I always admitted to being a Bushbot, and towing the "R" line. I feel used. Your post is dead on. This is SOOOO against the will of the people, and it was done with arrogant, marie antionettish, nose thumbing. I am now one of those people who I used to disagree with. Our votes and good faith were just sold to Vincente..

Wallace,
Your post is spot on - well said. An elderly friend of mine called me today after the bill passed and said ' My God...I never thought I'd see the twilight of America within my own life time '.
I tried to assure him the House won't pass the damed thing but I really don't think he believes it. The House must hold the line. Hard to believe they are the last line of defense.
I've said it in more than a few threads but it still amazes me how many dems and libs who are completely against any type of amnesty or guest worker plan.
