One of the most enduring rumors in Washington has resurfaced. The Wall Street Journal reported online in its Washington Wire column Thursday that Treasury Secretary John Snow could leave office after the Group of Eight meetings in Russia on June 9 and 10. "Republican sources say White House has homed in on successor," the Journal reported. Declining to speculate, a senior administration official told the Journal, "Why would I start now?" The names being floated as a successor to Snow are familiar: Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick, former Commerce Secretary and presidential buddy Don Evans, U.S. Ambassador to India David Mulford, and former White House economic adviser Steve Friedman.
Since Bush is peaking new staffers from the media, how about Steve Forbes?
Why have Steve Forbes when you can have your buddy Don Evans?
wow....I thought they meant Tony Snow...
He didn't sound like it on Rush today.
Man, I love Bob Zoellick but he is the last person I would want in that position. He is too wonky. Bush needs someone at Treasury who can be a public cheerleader on the economy and get some good press. Zoellick will put everyone to sleep. Don Evans is just another Texas Bush crony. My preference actually would be Jack Kemp or Phil Gramm if they could get him. Gramm's a Texan but not a Bush crony.
George W. Bush had John Snow put on the exit list so that Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Republicans, white men, and SUV owners could kill Iraqis.
After listening to the Bush/Blair presser again, I heard Bush debunk this. Apparently, Jayson Blair has found employment again.
