Why do you ignore that the first two strikes are usually violent felonies? I am all for a two strikes law. Give people ONE chance to go straight, then lock them away forever. How do you think the second and third victims feel knowing that some
"compassionate" moron thought more of the criminal's well being than their innocent victims?

I am not soft on crime. Repeat offenses of violent crime deserve stiff sentences. I am not convinced that repeat offenses of petty crimes deserve harsh sentences. It seems to me that people want to pick and choose which crimes they punish severely and which crimes they ignore. I do not understand why hot check writers are locked up while credit card thieves are aloud to go about their merry business. This is not to say I think people who commit petty crimes should escape punishment. If you read my post you will see I am harsh on crime.

Why do you ignore the fact that a lot of things that are defined as "violent felonies" don't involve harm to as much as a gnat? Carrying a gun in some states and home towns (the Second Amendment notwithstanding), owning one round of AP or tracer ammo in CA, owning an "assault weapon" in Denver, CA, or half a dozen other states, most drug possession offenses, especially if you own a gun or ammo as well ... these are "violent felonies" by definition. For honestly violent crimes, I basically agree with you, but be sure you understand the law before you state your support for the law.
