In the race to replace Duke [Bilbray vs Busby in CA]
The Washington Times ^ | 5/25/06 | Rick Amato op-ed

Posted on 05/25/2006 6:36:03 AM PDT by Gothmog

"As the race to replace the imprisoned Randy 'Duke' Cunningham moves closer to the June 6 election day, the stakes, intensity and consequences begin to surface in magnitudes never seen before in the bid for California's 50th Congressional District."

[Snip]

"Make no mistake, the key issue in the 50th District race is illegal immigration. On this issue, Mr. Bilbray has been active for many years. If there is one person this side of Lou Dobbs who has been way out in front of the rest of society on illegal immigration as an issue, it is Brian Bilbray. In 1997 (he served in Congress from 1994-2001), Mr. Bilbray sponsored a bill to deny citizenship at birth to children born in America to parents of illegal status. After he left Congress, Mr. Bilbray worked for the Federation of American Immigration Reform (FAIR), a conservative non-profit group whose mission is to reform our nation's immigration policies. He opposes amnesty for illegal immigrants. He favors tough penalties on employers who hire illegal workers and a required worker eligibility verification program, implemented through a national database that would eliminate forged documents. He supports the use of military at the border. Clearly, he is a hard-line conservative.

"On this issue, Mrs. Busby takes a much more liberal view."

"Mrs. Busby had an interesting demeanor about herself. Throughout the entire debate she maintained an expressionless 'deer in the headlight' stare. Not because she was frightened or confused, far from it she is a bright person, but because she seemed to be reciting answers from a scripted playbook."

I thnk he gives her too much credit, ha ha ha

I lived in Bilbrays old congressional district on the coast, which is liberal, bilbray was too conservative to hold on to it.

I think he will be farther right in Duke's district.

He will be a leader on immigration issues.

"Busby’s people have put the word out that she has pulled comfortably ahead of Bilbray in the polls. If that’s true then the national GOP could be poised to face a massive national embarrassment by losing what was once thought to be an unshakably Republican seat."

Maybe I should just sit this one out. Next to immigration the second amendment is my number two issue.

It would be annoying to lose this seat and give the Dems and the media momentum towards taking the congress, but what the hay.

I've become thoroughly disgusted w/ the whole political process.

80%=/- of the population just want to get on w/ their lives.

The remainder want to control.

Both sides are not that far apart until it becomes politicized & in the hands of our elected PsOS.

If the f**king GOP had a clue, they'd simply push for enforcement of existing laws rather that engage in this outrageous circus of "immigration reform".

Our elected officials (& their black robed counterparts) should be very afraid if this ongoing charade continues to escalate.
