Google westboro baptist church- go to their webpage and to '/video/20060521_seaford-de.html' (not allowed to link)and you will find video footage of the going away party that the Westboro protesters received at the funeral of Cpl Cory Palmer last Sunday.
The link below is from a local TV station covering the funeral yesterday of Lance Corporal Rick James. It talks about how the protesters from Westboro failed to show up for the funeral.

A short quote form the news story reads:
"Margie Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church said they didn't show up because the "bloody violent undisciplined vicious community had no respect for the law and whose leaders turned them into a mob."
I offer this post to make a couple of important points to protesters who may wish to target the Delmarva Peninsula- again not condoning any action, just so you can't say you weren't forewarned.
You're not in Kansas Anymore, Toto
If you arrive on the Delmarva Peninsula with your agenda that flies in the face of what most people in this area believe; you will most likely be tolerated.
If you arrive on the Delmarva Peninsula with your agenda that flies in the face of what most people in this area believe and decide to get in peoples faces; you will be on thin ice.
If you arrive on the Delmarva Peninsula with your agenda that flies in the face of what most people in this area believe and you decide that your best course of action is to interrupt or disturb something as personal and sacred as a funeral- and a funeral of a military member at that; you will most likely not return for the second funeral demonstration.
I live in Seaford. I was not at the funeral, the protest or the counter protest but I can tell you this.
While Margie Phelps says "the 'bloody violent undisciplined vicious community had no respect for the law and whose leaders turned them into a mob'", she is wrong on several points of fact.
1. What she viewed as 'bloody violent undisciplined and vicious' was in fact a greater demonstration of self restraint than has probably been seen on the face of the earth in many many years.
2.What she calls 'no respect for the law' was actually an example of a real world demonstration of the understanding that some values being higher than the law- make the law moot. An example might be that there is a law against speeding, but if you're taking a seriously injured person to the hospital, the value of their life supercedes the authority of the law.
When you choose a funeral as a platform to advance your political agenda, you have triggered in many people the willingness to superced the letter of the law to protect a higher moral truth- funerals should be sacred events for the family and friends.
3. She goes on to say, 'and whose leaders turned them into a mob'. Perhaps no single statement demonstrates her lack of understanding of this area more than this one small phrase. Anyone who has ever spent any time on Delmarva knows that leaders are only marginally tolerated as long as their leadership does not start to become too much of a burden on the led. If the leaders in this area set out to create a mob; they would not be able to do it.
Westboro protesters should fall on their knees and thank God for the mercy that He bestowed on them by allowing them safe exit from this area- mercy that was so much more abundant than could be found in their message. Westboro protesters should thank God, the God whose word they twist and whose nature they misrepresent, that they were able in their vile hatred find enough wisdom to not come back for the second funeral protest. Westboro protesters would do well to remember that when you cross water onto the Delmarva Peninsula, your're not in Kansas anymore, Toto.

Big darned ditto to that, N.
Tolerance of the Westboro Baptist Church ends at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. );-)
Why is a city owned van being used to transport these wackos? It would be better to let them drive there on their own.
One sometimes wonders how a person would go about finding people like the WBC idiots.
How can you band together this many crazy bastids?
Ping!
Probably because when the beast was driving her own van here, she ran it into a deputy sheriff. I'm still amazed she wasn't arrested.
At last, lots of 'someones' stood up to these Westboro lepers and truly put the fear of God into them.
God bless you, Seaford, everyone.
The WBC is definitely a family tree whose branches don't fork. It's good to see that they're starting to feel the heat. It'll be a nice warm-up for the heat they'll feel on Judgement Day.
DelMarVa PING!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone wanting on or off the infrequent DelMarVa list please let me know.
I cringe every time that the Phelps clan is associated with Kansas. Kansans don't sanction or condone these protests in any way, In fact, the Legislature worked hard to pass a bill specifically directed at curtailing these protests, and many other Kansans are members of the Patriot Guard. Rather than associate Phelps and his hatemongers with Kansas, I think we should use headlines that serve to remind everyone that Phelps is a registered Democrat! He fits that demographic better than being labeled a Kansan.
"Why is a city owned van being used to transport these wackos? It would be better to let them drive there on their own."
I don't have this confirmed, but rumor is the van that WBC brought suffered from the tires being slashed. This leads me to believe that there were Democratic Party operatives on the Shore as well.
LOL!!!!
From what I've pieced together from the various resports I've seen, I believe the 16 year old who was arrested on Sunday is who was accused of slashing the tires.
Except that I know more than a few registered Democrats and they are just as disgusted with his antics as my GOP friends are. His insanity and mindless hatred transcends politics. IMHO the Democrats don't deserve to be labeled with Phelps any more than the Republicans deserve to be labeled with David Duke.
Take their sorry butts down to Tilghman Island, raise the drawbridge and let Capt'n Buddy and his boys take care of 'em.
LOL!!!
Better yet, send them to Tangier and then cancel the return ferry :)
I wonder what would happen to them in Oysterback?
Yepper. It has long been the operating philosophy in most of this country, that if you continually spew fighting words, you should not be surprised when you get a fight.
It would be especially unfortunate if there were some kind of big law enforcement emergency during the funeral which required that the members of LE be called away from their 'protection' of the WBC so they could perform other, more urgent duties; say on the other side of the county.
It would be most extremely unfortunate if the members of this 'church' were to find themselves alone, without the protection of the local sheriff if something like this were to improbably happen again, only this time with no witnesses.
Yep...that'd be a real damned shame.
