RUDY IS SHUTOUT OF PARTY (NY Repubs "not interested" in switch-hitting RINOS)
NY POST ^ | May 25, 2006 | FREDRIC U. DICKER in Albany and MAGGIE HABERMAN in New York

Posted on 05/25/2006 3:33:07 AM PDT by Liz

RUDY GIULIANI got Lame GOP invite.

New York's best-known Republican will skip next week's state GOP nominating convention because of what party officials claim was a "scheduling" conflict.....Giuliani was only indirectly invited to the major GOP event by a party functionary---and was never directly asked to attend by either state GOP chairman Stephen Minarik or by Gov. Pataki......"It doesn't sound like Pataki was especially interested in having him there," said a longtime GOP activist......

GOP officials insisted that Giuliani....wouldn't be at next week's convention - because he'd be out of town. But his spokeswoman told The Post that the former mayor would, in fact, be in Manhattan next Thursday morning......... Asked if he would have addressed the gathering if asked to do so by Pataki, Mindel responded, "I don't answer hypothetical questions."

......Mayor Bloomberg, a former Democrat who turned Republican in 2001 in order to run for mayor, also will be absent.....His spokesman said Bloomberg was "not invited" to the event.......

Looks like NY Repubs still chafe at the thought that Rudy endorsed Democrat Mario Cuomo for governor (over Repub Pataki who won) b/c Rudy calculated it was in his own best interests to have a Dem in Albany if and when he decided to run for Governor (this was pre-911 before his Extreme Makeover as America's (gag) Mayor). Even now, around NY politics---you hear talk about "Giuliani Democrats." If Giuliani thought it was in his best interests, he would run as a Democrat without blinking an eyelash.

"scheduling" conflict

Perhaps Mr. G. was slated to address the NY Log Cabin Rebbies on the date of the party nominating convention.

We have to realize that when you're speaking of northeast republicans with rare exception there's a smell factor.

If you're a Republican who wants to win in New York, you have to be a centrist who doesn't mind the gays and keeps mum about abortion. I understand not having that idiot Bloomberg there, but Rudy's fame quotient should be enough to offset any lingering bad feelings that Pataki has for him.

LOL. Yeah, Mayor Rudolfo has a special affinity for gays having lived with a gay couple after exiting Gracie Mansion.

And then there's Rudy's propensity to give openly gay Liberals top political jobs.

As mayoral candidate, Rudy placed his name on the Liberal line and proceeded to give Liberals top jobs in his administration---- one of Rudy's Liberal appointees, Russel Harding -- son of Liberal bigwig Ray Harding---stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from the city, and enjoyed gay porn and trips with gay buddies on the taxpyaers dime. Russel's brother also got a big NYC job. When it was revealed Russel ripped-off NYC taxpayers, Rudy preferred to save his Liberal bona fides, and stuck his head up Liberal backsides by saying he "felt sorry" for the Harding family.

Call me crazy but I still think Giuliani did a fine job as mayor, even before 9/11. I hold him in much higher regard than any other Republican in NY. Had he been invited the average IQ and integrity of the room would have increased tremendously.

I am amazed how eager the people on FR are to eat their own.

Something else is going on here. This isn't about Rudy being a RINO. NYS GOP is an oxymoron.

He was VERY STRONG on law and order issues and cleaned up a city that people thought was lost for good. I believe he cut the murder rate by two-thirds. I give him high marks for that.

I also understand the strong feeling of those who disagree, strongly, with him on social issues.

He's just about the best we can hope for in the NorthEast.

Like it or not, I don't think he will engender conservative support elsewhere.

I think he would have been an excellent candidate for Senator or Governor this year in NY.

I am even more amazed to see suggested here that we conservatives should sacrifice our principles and embrace Mayor Rudolfo, just b/c Rudy is a suck-up, and routinely fellates his campaign contributors, with little or no regard for principled Republicans. To get the presidential nod, Rudy will stick his head up the backsides of so many special interest groups, it'll take emergency surgery to get it out.

During presidential season, even the NYS GOP sees the "light."

Giuliani did a fine job as mayor, even before 9/11........He was VERY STRONG on law and order issues ...

Let's hear Rudy defend his immigration politics while he was Mayor. Giuliani sued all the way up to the Supreme Court to defend the city’s pre-911 sanctuary policy to thwart a 1996 federal law decreeing that cities could not prohibit their employees from cooperating with the INS.

"Oh yeah?," said Giuliani to his naysayers, "Just watch me." The INS, Rudy claimed, with what turned out to be grotesque irony, only aims to "terrorize people."

Very poor choice of words, Rudy.

Though he lost in court, Rudy remained defiant to the end.

On September 5, 2001, Rudy'a own boys---his handpicked charter-revision committee---ruled that New York City could still require that its employees keep immigration information confidential "to preserve trust between immigrants and government."

Six days later, on Sept 11, 2001, several foreigners who had overstayed their visas participated in the most devastating attack on New York City that our country had ever seen.

LAUGH BREAK

Rudy's smile is more presidential than Hillary's (not photo-shopped--Rudy really
dressed like this--future voters will decide whether he's a complete a** or not.)

And Rudy is seen as more "likable" than Clinton...Not to mention,
he looks better in heels, although those calves of his could use some lipo.....

Whether you jibe with his politics or not, you've gotta at least respect him for returning that Prince Alaweed's (or whatever the hell his name is) check after 9/11.

Your point is very well taken. But again I think he was far better, on the whole, than any other candidate NYC could have ended up with. Perfect? Far from it. I have expressed my disappointment and sense of betrayal here many times regarding the Republicans and immigration. But of course the Dems are far worse. Bad and worse, these seem to be our choices.

Right. there is some annual "stage show/roast" at which the mayor is expected to make a fool of himself.

I don't recall either Dinkins or Bloomberg doing it with such, um, GUSTO, though.

The NYC area (my home) is VERY different from the rest of the country. (Not a decent country music station to be had, for example - visitors from the "heartland" notice right away how such a popular style of music is almost entirely absent from the local scene.) And didn't NYC vote about 75% for Kerry?

AND many people here have no idea how different this region is from the rest of the country. And if they do, the reflexive response is usually to think how backward everyone else is.

The very definition of provincial . . .

One of the best posts on the subject---needs repeating:

LIBERTARIAN IN EXILE POSTED To those saying it's starting to look like it's Rudy's to lose: Which means exactly jack $#!#. I will never, ever, vote for Rudy. I will vote third party if he is the GOP nominee. And I will tell everyone exactly why: the man cheated on his wife--knowing his young kid would certainly find out--while in Gracie Mansion. This man wasn't trustworthy enough to commit to a marriage he has already sworn to before God and man, with a family at stake, when his child is going to see that misbehavior. Now, we're supposed to trust him with the entire country? I won't even get into all the reasons he's a loser politically...personally, he's slime, and that's enough for me to just say no to Rudy.
