It isn't about treating the illegals with respect. It is about trying to co-opt as large a portion of them as possible so we can get past the hump. It is also about security. Turning 10-20 million illegals into felons would be very bad for our security, and probably chase a lot of hispanics into the open arms of socialist revolutionaries, and islamic jihadists.
