I think he resigned because he loved this country more than he liked being president

Secure the borders and enforce employer sanctions, FIRST! After the Feds get the enforcement part up and running, then it'll be time to discuss a temporary worker program. The path to US citizenship, is to follow the law.

How do we know 20 million illegal aliens can't be deported until it's tried? Oh yeah we can't even deport 10.

That Nixon resigned because he really was a crook?

Either that or Nixon knew how to count votes. 242 Dems in the House and 56 Dems in the Senate. Working in concert with a powerful monolithic Mainstream Media absolutely determined to give Nixon payback for even suggesting that MSM's darling leftist Northeastern elites associated with Communists.

Did Nixon admit, on the tapes, to authorizing a break-in at the Democrat headquarters or not?

The BS of this is not amnesty because of some TOKEN penalty is an insult to all the voters.

I smell a sell out.

There is no reason, ZERO, for a guest worker program to be convertable to citizenship.

Keep guest workers OUT of the path to citizenship.

as I said,

I smell a sell out.

Why the GOP is committing political suicide is beyond me.

It appears that the ghosts of Thomas Dewey (who eschewed conservative issues when running for president), Sherman Adams (who kept conservatives out of the Eisenhower White House), and Arthur Larson (who in 1956 urged Republicans to adopt a "New Deal light" platform in his book, A Republican Looks At His Party) have been aroused and are alive and well--at least among the party elite.

Wrong headline. It should read:

Only Nixon Could Go to China, and Only ????? Could Sell Border Control to the Senate

....Well, I can dream can't I?

Pence is a pragmatic politician, not an ideologic demagogue.

The only problem is that his plan is totally unworkable. Specifically, "Representative Pence’s not-an-amnesty requires all of them to return to their home country with a guarantee of readmission before getting their reward."

If these "Ellis Island Centers" are run by the private sector and "perform a health screening, fingerprint them and provide the appropriate information to the FBI and Homeland Security so that a background check can be performed, and provide the guest worker with a visa granted by the State Department. The visa will be issued only outside of the United States." How can anyone guarantee that the illegals will be allowed back in? Why would they leave in the first place.

I found the following statement by Pence, to be ridiculous: "Outside of the United States. That is a key point because it is the provision that will require the 12 million illegal aliens to leave. Now, some of you are thinking to yourselves that twelve million people aren't going to pack up and leave just to get a visa to come back legally. But, I believe most will."

"The process that I just described to you will only take a matter of one week, or less. That is the beauty of the program. Speed is so important. No employer in America wants to lose employees for an extended amount of time. No worker who is earning money to feed and clothe a family can afford to be off the job for long."

Does he really think that background checks can be performed that quickly? They should be done not only in the US, but also in the home country. The logistics of processing millions of people through these centers is daunting to say the least. It would take years to do it. In the meantime, people will still be streaming through the border. This is all nonsense.

Keep guest workers OUT of the path to citizenship.

I believe Pence's plan does just that.

Not that anyone at FR has bothered to study the matter. Nor has the author of this piece.

There's going to be a guest worker program. The spleen-venters better get used to the idea.

That was true long before his immigration proposal.

Really, what is it with FReepers? THey don't bother to read or research, and now they just lap up whatever Tancredo, one of the stupidest people in Congress, tells them.

Here are two ways Pence's plan is different.

1) It doesn't provide a path to citizenship.
2) It doesn't let illegal aliens stay here and start working legally, they have to leave and re-apply, with some risk that they can't return.

Unfortunately Pence's plan still rewards illegals for breaking the law. The fact of the matter is that even if they have to return to their country of origin to apply for an immediate visa, they would have never been able to do it if they hadn't broken American laws.
