Feeble attempt to get the focus off of William Jefferson?

Whoops! I thought you were talking about BJ Clinton..thought that Ol' Rascal was up to more mischief.
Yes, I believe that's about right: classic showbiz slight of hand/misdirection. How embarrassing to be a "journalist" today.

From ABC

WASHINGTON, May 24, 2006 — Ron Bonjean, communications director for Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., issued the following statement regarding the ABC World News Tonight story that aired this evening:

"The ABC News report is absolutely untrue. As confirmed by the Justice Department, 'Speaker Hastert is not under investigation by the Justice Department.' We are demanding a full retraction of the ABC News story. The Speaker's earlier statement issued today accurately reflects the facts regarding this matter."

There will be much disappointment for some posters. They had already convicted him and asked for him to resign immediately.

Typical knee-jerk reaction around here -- from the Dim plants, Buchanan types, and other "real" conservatives.

Their original story was 10 times than their correction.

Their correction is a Reuters story posted on their web site not an official correction from the orginal Article written by their employee/reporter. So to me they've made no correction at this point in time.

This whole thing...the reaction towards JUSTICE, but little or no reaction to what Jefferson did, boggles the mind.

That's why it smells funny. Having conniptions over that instead of the crime.

ABC News, citing high level Justice Department sources, said information implicating Hastert had been developed from convicted lobbyists who are now cooperating with the government.

But department officials, who asked to not be identified, said the story was not accurate

Looks to me like the DOJ is trying to smoke out the leakers/moles.

REPUBLICAN CONTRACT WITH AMERICA... As Republican Members of the House of Representatives and as citizens seeking to join that body we propose not just to change its policies, but even more important, to restore the bonds of trust between the people and their elected representatives. That is why, in this era of official evasion and posturing, we offer instead a detailed agenda for national renewal, a written commitment with no fine print. This year's election offers the chance, after four decades of one-party control, to bring to the House a new majority that will transform the way Congress works. That historic change would be the end of government that is too big, too intrusive, and too easy with the public's money. It can be the beginning of a Congress that respects the values and shares the faith of the American family. Like Lincoln, our first Republican president, we intend to act "with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right." To restore accountability to Congress. To end its cycle of scandal and disgrace. To make us all proud again of the way free people govern themselves. On the first day of the 104th Congress, the new Republican majority will immediately pass the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government: --> FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress¡K

The problem with this kind of yellow journalism is that there will always be those who confidently state that, "yeah we know Hastert is really crooked, they are all crooked up there don'tcha just know"

It's like driving by a guy waiting for a bus and throwing yellow paint on him, eventually it will wear off but for now and for the foreseeable future he will have to live with the yellow paint.

No one is better at making up inuedno, and throwing muck than the rats and their surrogates the drive-bys.

Then he didn't say anything about Jefferson. You appear to be as accurate as the MSM.

You're right I just caught who wrote it. ABC is probably contacting their sources seeing if they can get some incriminating fake but accurate documents in order.

I feel schizophrenic.

It made sense- and then it didn't. It fit perfectly with someone's agenda- but whose it was remained a mystery even when it made sense...before it didn't.

I jumped to about 7 conclusions in a matter of minutes.

Conclusion: Brian Ross belongs to the Dan Rather, Mary Mapes school of journalism.

This is sad news for many on FR.

For some reason many were gleeful at the news that Hastert may have done something wrong.

Wierd place around here these days.

Try reading it. By his office maybe, but not by the DOJ. Sources that want to remain anonymous isn't official.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED that the presstitutes got it wrong again. Of course, they purposely got it wrong.
