So long as citizens of another country are allowed to stream into this country in large numbers, so long as they issue demands of rights and privileges that are the preserve of citizens, and so long as they make claims upon territory of this country, you're not going to see the rhetoric cool. Those demonstrations of May 1st couldn't have been more provocative of a backlash if they had been specifically designed for that outcome. Up to that point, I was uncomfortable with the idea, but was not strongly opposed. I've known Mexican families that came to NC since the 80s, and they're good people. Some sons of neighboring families have married their daughters. I certainly don't "hate" them, they're decent people. But, what I saw across the country on that day was an entirely different thing, from the humble, decent, hardworking and grateful people that I have known. What I saw certainly looked like a threat to me, and I'm far from alone in that impression.
It certainly will become a threat long before the Senate stops selling out the country in a competition to win "illegal" votes!
(At least they promise to not sell us out for the large gifts of money they take - And why would we think they would??)
