I live in Montana, and in Montana there's a lot of dirt between light bulbs...
The former 55 MPH speed limit was a first for MT; it was formerly a reasonable and prudent speed statute with a substantial fine and points. So our legislature in response to the actions of the Congress; revised our laws and we had a $5 on the spot fine for the unnecessary consumption of fuel and no points...
Pass your stupid back east type 55 MPH law again and well quickly go back to our reasonable and prudent statute with a low fine and no points.
Sammie said it best: I CANT DRIVE 55!!!

Montana - now THERE's a state! A long weekend fly-fishing in a valley so far off the beaten path that our cell phones didn't work was THE best vacation last year! Gorgeous place and great people!

I live in Montana, and in Montana there's a lot of dirt between light bulbs... I remember when Montana went with the "safe and prudent" approach when it dropped the speed limit altogether, and highway fatalities actually decreased. Ever since they posted speed limits back up, highway fatalities have gone back up.

I am sure there would be a mandate that points have to be assessed for highway speeding. When Montana passed the wasting natural resources $5 fine, the people in the Federal Gov't was pissed about Montana thumbing their nose against the 55 mph idea. I am also sure that she also would require states to sign the AAMVA Driver License Agreement to ensure punishment for exceeding 55 mph out-of-state as well.
Part of my college years, there was a blanket 55 mph speed limit. there was no 65 mph limit and it sucked the big one ! Talk about breeding contempt towards illogical laws which I have as much contempt towards today as then.
The 55 mph limit might be reasonable for the urban East Coast but it is wrong for the Western states. This East Coast one size fits all does not work and it is arrogant.
BTW, dear Hilliary, I will NOT comply with this 55 mph limit nor will I respect it, like it, support it, promote it, period.
Pass your stupid back east type 55 MPH law again and well quickly go back to our reasonable and prudent statute with a low fine and no points.
