Lt. Gov. John Wilder and state Senator Jeff Miller said they were subpoenaed today by an attorney for Tennessee Waltz defendant Roscoe Dixon to testify in Dixons upcoming federal trial in Memphis.
Wilder was served with the subpoena Wednesday morning. Wilder told reporters he thinks there are other subpoenas that have been issued to lawmakers and more to come, though he could not name names.
I wasnt surprised to get it, Wilder told reporters Wednesday morning.
Miller acknowledged being subpoenaed this morning, though he told reporters he wasn't sure why.
"I have absolutely no idea why I was subpoenaed," Miller said. "I don't have any factual knowledge of the case United States v. Roscoe Dixon."
Dixon is one of five current or former lawmakers charged in FBIs Tennessee Waltz corruption sting last year targeting alleged bribes in return for legislation.
Dixon's trial on charges of accepting bribes totalling $9,500 dollars is scheduled to begin Tuesday.
Lieutenant Governor John Wilder said that he received a subpoena, but said he did not know how many senators were subpoenaed.
Senator Jeff Miller, who has been investigated but not charged in the public corruption case called Tennessee Waltz, also said he received a subpoena.
The Cleveland Republican has acknowledged accepting $1,000 from a lobbyist who pleaded guilty as part of the undercover probe but has said the money was a campaign contribution.
Miller said he had no idea why he was subpoenaed and said he didn't have any factual knowledge about the case against Dixon.
The woman would only identify herself as a "process server." Dixon resigned from the state legislature in January 2005 after serving as either a representative or senator for 22 years to take a position as an assistant to Shelby County Mayor A.C Wharton.
He resigned that post in May 2005 after being indicted in the FBIs Tennessee Waltz public corruption sting.

Wilder and Cooper should have been charged in the railroad spur scam in Warren County (where I live.)
Cooper got a govt grant to say that would build a spur on his property and then got a appraiser to jack the price up based on the "promise" to build one, then he got Wilder's bank to give the buyer a loan and so Cooper sold it at the jacked-up price. What a scam. They never built the spur. The buyers did get charged and the appraiser went to court as well. Wilder and Cooper have had nothing done to them.
