Hastert Demands FBI Return Documents

House Speaker Dennis Hastert demanded Wednesday that the FBI surrender documents it seized and remove agents involved in the weekend raid of Rep. William Jefferson's office, under what lawmakers of both parties said were unconstitutional circumstances.

"We think those materials ought to be returned," Hastert said, adding that the FBI agents involved "ought to be frozen out of that (case) just for the sake of the constitutional aspects of it."

The Saturday night search of Jefferson's office on Capitol Hill brought Democrats and Republicans together in rare election-year accord, with both parties protesting agency conduct they said violated the Constitution's separation of powers doctrine.

I actually call their office about every 10 days! My Reps office staff knows what I think about everything! He is a terrific man and we're lucky to have him :)

I tend to agree

When I see any jumping up and down for third party, it is assumed to be some form of Moby or DU troll trying to make conservatives loose their growing dominance of the Republican party.

We should look at the number of Rinos which have now been shut out of the party. Kristine todd whitless for one.

How many other rinos are now out of a job. How many others will soon be out because more republicans means conservatives do not have to suffer rino stupidity?

If we had more "R"'s in office Specter would have been toast.

I so distrust the msm I want to wait to completely pile on until I hear more and can get a better picture of what his stand actually is. I have heard them so completely mischaracterize things I don't even trust quote marks any more.

Having said that, if this is indeed what Hastert did/said, not only is he wrong, he is way, way out of line. Any respect I might of had for him is severely diminished. Of course, I haven't been particularly been thrilled with his leadership. This is something I would be more likely believe came from Specter over in the Senate. It makes me wonder what his motivation is.

I understand that his job is akin to herding cats, but he and Frist are incredibly ineffective and maddeningly willing to waffle on all kinds of issues. They have done more than their fare share of weakening the President, mostly out of hubris. We need an iron fist within our own party. An iron Frist would do, but I won't hold my breath.

That is why I will vote in November with an eye towards shoring up the (R)'s in both houses with the hope that it will be a decent crutch until we can replace a few Rinos with more conservative members. Patience is a virtue here...but it's still difficult.

Boehner may not be dumber than a sack of rocks but he can't be much smarter.

While a sack of rocks is never right, it also is never wrong. That appears to be a better average than Boehner.

Which Dems came to Delay's aid... NONE. Yet, Hastert is going to bat for a criminal who used a public office to hide his crimes.

Majority Leader Boehner had some things to say that I read this morning; sorry I can't remember where or I'd link it.

But he supported Hastert's position and then said something weird as he was being interviewed/quoted. He said something like "Oh, my staff is telling me to shut up about this topic so that's all I will say".

I know its a huge (Hugh) forum, but since I've been here, I read most every thread posted. I guess that makes a difference. I tend to notice when the ones you've never seen before come out in such numbers.

IMO, Hasserts stupidity might be a blessing in disguise. This story is all over the news now. Hassert and the rest of the Congresscritters who are putting themselves above the law have also managed to put Jefferson and his "culture of corruption" antics on the front page as well.

I doubt many even on this forum heard about corrupt West Virginia Democrat Alan Mollohan who in fours years as a Congressman watched his assets grow from $500,000 to $6 million. Deomcrat corruption is burried on page 20 of the newspaper and never mentioned by the Today show.

The method stinks but the story of Democrat corruption is now getting out.
