I think if you put it into percentages - 3000 people killed in the US is about equal to 10 people killed in Israel due to the population differences (300 million vs 9 million)

Well, that makes sense...author should've said something about a 'percentage comparison'. Sorry - 9/11 comparisons is a touchy subject!
