The de facto anti-semitism in the european leftist establishment is seemingly solely funded on the israeli "occupation" of Palestine. When that "fact" is established I often experience traditional anti-semitic slogans when I discuss the subject with my leftist conterparts at my university i Norway (they control the media, the IMF, they lobby washington etc). This if often followed by a seamless chain of arguments into traditional anti-americanism. Point for point, it's easy to argue against such matters, but what is alarming is that it is no longer politically correct to show one's support of israel. Anti-israelism has now become almost a religion for many in Europe, and the link to the feeling of guilt in relation to the muslims is obvious. People look strange at you and wonders what your motives are: Is he a christian fundamentalist? Is he crazy? Maybe a secret jew? This is the opinion of the majority of the leftists, not only the hard-core socialists, but the voters that mainly focus their opinions on matters like family and welfare, more immigration, globalisation and foreign aid (the "soft-core" leftists). To support Israel in Norway today, that is to outspokingly symphatize with their militaristic policy of selfdefense, is unheard of and considered to be mentaly unhealty to say it at least. Boycotts are often suggested by the leftist political parties and the labour-movement is more and more outspoken on the need to punish Israel for its politics. The only thing that seems to be holding back government action in this direction is the conservatives and the fear in the Labour Party to cause an international scandal (i.e provoke the wrath of the USA, Norway's most important ally). Believe me, there is no mercy for Israel amongst the nordic socialists.
