My gosh what is going on here- I am uncomfortable lying to get to a Congresspeople

Perhaps because that Representative was elected to represent the views of his constituents and not you? Amazing isn't it?

I don't believe that is what he is saying.

Hastert has a valid point. The White House claims "executive privilege" all the time when Congress asks for records.

Isn't this sickening? That OUR side of the aisle is defending this guy against the FBI?

Yes it is and imo Hassert doesn't have a leg to stand on

Congress is not a sanctuary to commit crimes and take bribes .. and I don't give a damn who's party is doing it

""Hastert must be covering here for something else."

Yea, congress itself." Gov. William J. Le Petomane said it best: ... We've got to protect our phoney-baloney jobs!

More proof that most Republican politicians have jelly for spines and foam for brains.

A criminal is a criminal. A Congressional Representative should be held to a higher standard of ethics...not placed in a more protected caste.

Cynthia McKinney and Patrick Kennedy would disagree.

Did the FBI contact the Speaker's Office BEFORE the warrant was executed?

"Jefferson should do the honorable thing and save us all the drama and resign."

Good thought but we hoped the same from another criminal with a Jefferson in his name.

I'm 100% with you on that. That is in big part what FreeRepublic stands for. Repeal the 17th Amendment, and the 16th Amendment too.

The FF's were right. The politicians sold us on the 17th amendment by saying it gave more power to the people. FALSE. It gave more power to the political parties and the Federal Government.

Looks like they went to extraordinary lengths to make the search constitutional. I'm with W on this one.

It does beg the question that if no man is above the law,, why this privilege for these few. I may have a bit of an issue with that but it could just be me when it comes to criminal acts.

Not sure on the state or local enforcement angle, perhaps the Louisiana folks should have first crack at him, not sure that DC police would necessarily be the best choice locally. They don't have a sparkling record of late when it comes to pursuing congressional indiscretions, etc.

Yeah, why don't we just disband Congress and move to a dictatorship? No more filibusters.

Did the FBI contact the Speaker's Office BEFORE the warrant was executed?

I read the other day they were notified one hour before the search was made

This was settled in 1972 or so.

AND, as then, this search was authorized by a JUDGE, one step above God as far as Libs are concerned.

Hastert's playing to the Dem playbook. Congress is too inbred for my liking.

I'm in an anti-incumbant kinda mood myself.

Have been every day for the past 20 years.
