Supply and demand market forces, yes? Cents/KWH ; $/gal of gas...it all comes down to the cost of doing business, yes? Solar? Sure, it's there, it's just too expensive. Wind? Sure, it's there, it's just too expensive. Nuclear? Sure, it's there, it's just too expensive. Ethanol? Sure, it's there, it's just too expensive....So everyone, get used to it, cheap energy days are either over, or just over the horizon.

"So everyone, get used to it, cheap energy days are either over, or just over the horizon."
It's really a brilliant strategy, albeit accidental.
The US uses up all (or most) of the cheap energy in the world building up its infrastructure, including the ability to utilize expensive energy, such as the coal it sits on in VAST quantities --- probably as much, if not more, than the rest of the world put together.
The cheap oil runs out; the rest of the world is screwed.
We have the infrastructure AND the cheapest available energy.
Sounds like the beginning of an American millennium, to me.
