Texas's tax structure is almost evil it is so bad. We are getting ripped off right and left with the ridiculous real estate taxes and the sales taxes are equally absurd. So what does Perry do? He gets a further tax on businesses. How does that entice business into Texas? Besides, businesses don't pay taxes. We do.

My neighbors are from California and they look at the taxes here and just shake their heads. They will be voting for Kinky. I know a number of people who are otherwise conservative believe it is high time for a change.

If Strayhorn gets out of the race that brings Kinky into striking range of Perry's 41% assuming he picks up her votes. The Democratic candidate will be insignificant as the party here is essentially non-existent.

I went over to Baylor U. and listened to what he has to say and he made some excellent points and was well received by the audience. He will probably have to moderate his apparel somewhat but he is a breath of fresh air. I'm voting for him. We need the change. The alternative is to vote for the status quo which makes absolutely no sense.

We need a drug-addled fool as governor of Texas?

I notice you gripe about property taxes, then gloss right over the 30% property tax cut just passed.

Just what does Kinky propose to do about school funding? Nothing. He is even more clueless than Ma Strayhorn is, yet supposedly intelligent people want to make Texas a laughingstock by putting Don Imus' drinking buddy in the governor's mansion.

Long overdue!

I'd love to vote for someone other than Perry, but I think the others are as bad or worse. I am seriously considering not voting in the governor race.

Yes, property taxes are out of control, but come on, California has a 1% higher statewide sales tax, 7.25% base, nearly a 10% income tax and you don't have to be making that much to be in that top bracket, and even with Prop 13 limiting run away appraisals, (an appraisal cap less than 10% would be nice in Texas) the property tax rate is 1%. Finally, car titling, other use fees, and licensing requirements complete the picture, California IMO has a bleaker tax picture than Texas.

Full disclosure, with the higher appraisal, and if all the taxing entities in El Paso County keep the same tax rates, which counts as a tax increase I will pay about 2.5% of my houses value in taxes for 2006.

My main heartburn with the new tax structure is my belief that in five years all the school district will be back up to $1.50 per 100, I mean here in El Paso the school districts have go to and gotten bonds approved by the voters for maintenance, WTF if yo can't work routine maintenance into your annual budget SOMETHING is wrong and that is my concern.
The expanded business law is troublesome in that nearly every business will pass the increases on by raising prices, but I think, if there is going to be a tax law it should be an all or none affair. Everybody pays, or no one pays, but 1 in 8 or 1 in 9 having the tax apply, while the other business take a pass doesn't seem right. I like the no one pays idea, but rather than doing away with it, they really expanded it. Just like a bunch of politicians.

My neighbors are from California

If they prefer the "California" way, perhaps they should be shipped back.
