Amnesty is the complete forgiveness for a crime. In neither case is President Bush granting amnesty. Sandy Berger's sentence may not have been as severe as you would like, but he was convicted and fined. Same will happen with the illegal immigrants.

You guys have a bad habit of using words imprecisely. What you mean is that the president is not supporting penalties that are in line with the severity you wish.

However, he is not supporting amnesty.

I don't know what to call it.

It's probably much worse than Amnesty. It's "forgiveness" with a citizenship reward. Some go to the front of the line, some go to the back of the line..but they ALL get in line sooner or later.

Other than "an earned path to citizenship" there has to be a single word for this process. Wonder what that is?
