But, you see, he does not see you as the source of his redemption. That is the whole point.
I do not agree with the President on immigration, but the author of this piece correctly notes that his position on the issue has been consistent from Day One. His convictions do not arise from polls or our tantrums. Given that fact, I have no temptation to abandon him politically when our positions diverge.
The Congress is the one that passes the immigration laws, not the President, and he is dealing with a very divided bunch of legislators on this issue. There are as many ideas as there are Congressman, Add in the fact that all of the Dems will not vote their conscience on this issue but will vote for the politically expedient choice on every vote, and it is no wonder that we are ending up with an oddly constructed bill.
I will not be surprised if nothing gets through the Joint Cmte. on Immigration. But the President is at least willing to make this an issue and get them to try and negotiate a solution to this very-old problem.
As I've said before, if this was easy, Clinton or Bush I would have solved it. Same with the entitlements. Some things are hard because they are hard.
And don't kid yourself, he does pay attention to the Polls. All Politicians do.
I haven't abandoned President Bush. He's a good man, whose heart is in the wrong place these days, JMHO.
