With the race for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination well under way here, Evan Bayh showed off the assets that seem to be making him a top-rank competitor for Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucuses 18 months from now.
During a campaign swing across the state this past weekend, the Indiana senator's mellow demeanor, folksy Midwestern charm and credentials as a governor and U.S. senator gave Bayh threshold credibility with most of the rank-and-file Democrats he met.
But Bayh has something else thats not an asset, something that gives a reporter a distinct sense of déjà vu: his vote for the Iraq war resolution in 2002.

In my honest opinion, I think we're looking at the next POTUS here. He'll fool enough people into thinking he's a moderate, he's very Clinton-esque, without the baggage, attractive with a good looking family (he'll attract lots of single ladies)...
Where are the real men in our society? Im tired of all these metrosexuals masquerading as leaders.
Bayh the way, I'll recognize B. Bayh as a a legitimate candidate when his name shows up on the FR spellchecker.

I agree with you. He's a very likable guy, and is a mile apart from Hillary and the rabid left. I've heard others say that they like him too, and would consider voting for him if the GOP picks another RINO!
He is by far their Strongest Candidate.
NO one on the GOP looks strong right now. I think Bayh would wipe the floor with Allen, I hate to admit
You're quite correct in all of that.
Whether he gets nominated or not is a test of whether the Democrats are still morons or not; if they decide not to be idiots, they'll nominate Bayh.
I'm from Indiana, and I have to agree with you.
If he ever got the nomination, he'd be unstoppable.
Our best hope is that he is defeated in the Democratic primaries.
He would not only win Indiana and Ohio. he would make Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota non-competitive. And he'd probably win Kentucky, too.
Bayh worries me.
Giuliani MIGHT have a chance against Bayh.
Bayh will annihilate anyone else, unless pictures of him cavorting with underage male Communists turn up or something.
Agreed. If he can come up with an issue/strategy or two to peel off a segment of the leftie netroots crowd, he'll be formidable.
I think they're so hungry for a victory, that pragmatism might actually set in.
Any of those guys would be formidable, but my guess would be Warner.
FYI, before folks start looking for reasons why Bayh won't be elected, i.e.- he's a Senator, and Senators rarely get elected, he's from a very powerful political family in Indiana. He was a governor there (his dad was in power for years as well), and he would definitely turn Indiana Red next election... I say Red, cause I think the colors are flipping next election, if I'm not mistaken.
One hope we can cling to is that he is a terribly dull speaker. Really dull. Dull enough to make John Kerry look like Winston Churchill by comparison.
Against the likes of Hillary (or a far-left "firebrand" candidate), he may not be able to generate enough excitement to win the Demo primary.
Wow, they're . . . little.
