Some folks over at LibertyPost.org were commenting on that very thing just this morning. It's a sad truth that many true conservatives have been banned from this "conservative" forum for being -- "conservatives"! And many more have simply bailed out of disgust.

IMHO, 1911 could be significantly improved by redesigning of one feature - by giving it much more seriously slanted grip (like 125 degrees in Luger or even 130-135 - whatever the maximum slant at which the magazine would still feed reliably). Then the pistol would be pointing naturally.
odd that you find it this way. i learned how to shoot on a 1911, and find the grip angle very comfortable. when i went to look at semi-auto 22s, i had real problems pointing the rugers. because of the more slanted grip, they went way high for me.

Well, the ideal, natural slant is to be modeled on pointing the index finger - point it to the target [instinctive pointing] and see what kind of slant your empty palm would form [about 140 degrees]. Also the axis of recoil is closer to the arm bones that way, i.e. the recoil provides much less torque on the wrist, with correspondingly faster sight picture recovery.
