I watched the NBC Nightly News a couple of weeks ago with my 79-year-old Dad (a staunch Republican) at his house. I told him the average age of the show's viewers is over 60. He didn't believe me. We then watched commercials for denture cream, a Lark Scooter, and Medicare part D in succession.
He changed his mind.

My father used to watch the evening news. He's gone onto eternal life now. As it is, the networks are faced with the fact their demographic keeps shrinking each year by simple attrition and not only can't they stem it, they can't make themselves relevant to what younger viewers want. They're stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Two out the above three, makes the target audience 65 years at least.
