The real problem is that too many people actually dress like slobs. Not too sound naive, but on my last plane trip I saw far too many people dressed in shorts, sandals, ill-fitting T-shirts, baseball caps worn constantly, colors that went poorly together. A disturbing number of the men were also unshaven. One dirty hippie kept his feet propped up on the bulkhead for the entire duration of the flight. Unfortunately, with current trends in clothing, we've passed the line from dressing for comfort to dressing like little kids who don't have any sense.
What is reassuring is that if anyone yelled "Terrorist! Let's get him!", I feel confident that everyone would respond aggressively to neutralize the threat. Despite a blase attitude on the part of many toward the current war, no one will ever again let the plane be taken over. We just wouldn't have any neckties or belts with which to secure the terrorists.
You don't sound naive, you just sound like a snob.
You just described me.
A disturbing number of the men were also unshaven.
Yup! That's also me.
