Why don't you check your luggage and put your laptop under the seat?

I do check my "luggage" when it makes sense.
Airlines invite you to put SMALLER items and jackets in the overheads and heavier items under the seat in front of you.
When you are bulkhead row, there is no seat in front of you -- one has to put one's gear in the overhead.
Sometimes I do put my roll-aboard in the overhead and my laptop bag under the seat. Depends on the flight.
Trust me, I travel light.
