It seems to me that those in favor "comprehensive immigration reform" when called to task simply ignore the call of your question:
`What about the intention and apparent desire of President Bush to give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens?'
Their plan seems to be to simply change the date on the following: http://www.oig.lsc.gov/legis/irca86.htm
from `1986' to `2006'.
As a result this `can is kicked down the road' another twenty years.
Of course, in 2026 we could just again change the date `2006' in the above statute to `2026' when we have (was it 3 million in `86? and 12 million today?) using an exponential calculation: 48 million aliens "living in the shadows"--that is, when they aren't out demanding their rights while flying their flag, having read their history and recalling how well intimidation & threats worked in May of 2006.
It gives me no pleasure to say that many problems are being kicked down the road - Social Security for one. Republicans and DemocRATs alike are failing us on the big issues.
