In 7th grade we HAD to run a 600 yard run to PASS our class. Yeah! Me too! Only my run was uphill both ways and in the snow.

Trust me if a Marine started swinging that ribbon, liberal parents would wet their pants and call it a deadly weapon.

Was it just my school, or were most PE teachers gone to pot, ex jocks who tried flirting with all the girls trying to recapture their youthful glory of high school football?

Then your school was better....I personally had no clue what 600 yards was, then.
Now, it seems rather short...but, it is still better than NO PE.
I think the last year that both of my children, now 28 and 30 had PE was the 7th grade...after that it was an optional class.
We had to take it every year through 12th.

GREAT PICTURE....
My father was a Marine...and I always kind of hoped my son would be a Marine...but, he became a flight instructor instead.
My daughter came closer to enlisting...until she found out boot camp was far away from home....LOL

The picture doesn't really show it but they have just thrown the rifles to each other from behind their backs.

If you are a parent, and you have not taught your children well enough that they can stand up to "recruitment" forces...you have not don't your job. A parents job is to help children develop the will/courage to stand up for what they believe. Not to protect them from everyone who does not.
That said, it needs to be age appropriate. This is high school, so case closed.
IMO, this is about parents who have not done their job...and now worry about it.

I attended East High in 1959. I would have welcomed a Marine DI versus the PE teachers we had then, but we did take State in football, baseball, and basketball that year (Remember Pat Richter and Dale Hackbart?), if my last two remaining grey cell serve me correctly. Even had Russian and Latin, among others, offered as languages. It was a pretty good High School back then..

Hey!
We did that too...only we didn't have shoes and we had to carry all our books with us.

LOLOL
we had about 50 marines in our class, on the first day of jump school.
We had five, the next day.
They can't do pushups.

Did you do that? I hope that isn't a dumb question...I just don't know if there are different things that Marines learn for like honor guard duty, or other "jobs"...
My nephew is in the Air Force...and stationed in Iraq right now...but, he watched Ronald Reagan's funeral...and said his goal is to work his way up to either being involved in the funeral processions...or guard duty at Arlington National Cemetary, the Tomb of the Unknown.
