Ricketts, Heinemann, Osborne, Stenberg ... Any of them could give Hagel a challenge as much as he's shat on the hometown folks.
It isn't that unseating Hagel will require a strong candidate. It's that Hagel is such a weak, vulnerable incumbent. All that's really necessary is to overcome the liberal wing of the party, and the incessant boosterism from the World-Herald.
Heinemann may have a chance, but he'll be 2 years into his second term as gov. and it may not bode well for him to jump to the Senate. Osborne? Hmmm. Do you think after his defeat he can come back? Would he?
I'll bet there's a Sec of Ag and his wife who would love to come home and run for the Senate. Yikes.
I was hoping you would tell me the GOP was deeper than that.
Any chance Phil Erdman would run for Osborne's Congressional seat?
