I saw Dreamer the movie with Kurt Russell last night. I really do pray the horse is okay.
If you think T'bred flat racing is bad for injuries, steeplechasing will make your blood run cold.
Was that a tragic race or what? I hope Barbaro makes it, but I don't think he will. Just damn.
Really? I didn't know that. It must not have been too bad because he raced in other races after the Belmont, including the famous match with Seabuscuit.
I saw that movie. It was awsome! I will buy it eventually.
So just praying that he does
My mare has War Admiral in her pedigree (the speed didn't come down to her though. She is S-L-O-W. I wouldn't enter her in a race with snails.)
I googled Bolten Center, where they're treating the horse....they have a web site with an interesting publication about equine fractures and treatment.
Steeplechase is too 'extreme sport' for me... I can't watch the carnage on a normal day.
Great movie; watched it with my two girls. Hope Barbaro has such a happy ending.
I mentioned in an earlier post that I had tears when I saw him break. What a beautiful animal doing what he loves.
LOL well, I guess even having the best pedigree in the world doesnt always help, either.
I just want more Triple Crown winners. This once every thirty years is unsatisfying... :)
To some extent it's true that the horse who is worth a lot of money is more likely to be saved than a horse that isn't--a gelding, for instance. It's worth the investment of many, many thousands of dollars of vet care and subsequent post-op care.
Maybe you're right. I'm not sure this injury came from that. But maybe it somehow did. If safety were paramount none of them would ever run, but we share the goal of making it as safe as possible and still be sport.
That's okay... it's hard to tell the tone of anything from a typed sentence. And the way it sounded in my head was obviously not the way it came off on the thread.
Very good horses have a better chance of getting saved than bad horses. It doesn't even matter whether the owner has a lot of money or not. a low level claimer is definitely NOT going to get the same treatment as a stakes horse. When I lived in New York, my rommate picked up a horse from a trainer that was going to euthanize it. All it had was a low bow, and it wasn't all that bad. But the horse was not going to be making money so the owner wanted it put down. The trainer just gave him to us.
Don't those leftist priests just bug the heck out of you? It's all I can do not to walk out when they start with their "love the terrorists" mantra. Grrrr...
Just keep praying, that's the best thing we can do at this point. Especially for relatively unimpaired circulation in the lower leg.
St. Martin of Tours, St. Anthony of Padua, will you please pray for this colt?
Good for you for rescuing your horse. I admire you!
